Another Weekly Dino Fact coming at ya!

More exciting news out of China (do they get all the best dino updates or what?), this time it’s about the largest mass extinction in history.

250 million years ago during the transition from the Permian to the Triassic Period there was a MASSIVE extinction event.

Basically 75% of all life on earth was wiped out during this one event.

Researchers are not sure what happened.

There could have been deadly gases that rose up from the sea floor or a massive volcanic event, but whatever happened wiped everything out.

That is what is really cool about this new discovery in Yunnan Province, in China, the massive cache of fossils proves how amazingly quickly life bounced back and new species evolved after such a massive wipe-out.

After only 10 million years (a really short amount of time if you think about it) life was able to bounce back to pre-extinction levels.

From the intense marine predator Saurichthys to all different types of crustaceans, fishes and bivalves, in a relatively short amount of time life was back to normal (almost) on earth.

What’s really interesting to think about, is what type of life would take over earth if something were to happen to humans.

If we all became extinct with one catastrophic event, we can be pretty sure that something would take our place in about 10 million years!
